10 Movies Where The Hero Originally Died At The End

8. Ellen Ripley - Alien

Terminator Salvation Original Ending
20th Century Fox

Ridley Scott broke a lot of ground with the original Alien, from using H.R. Giger’s unique Alien design to switching the gender of the last survivor from male to female. He had one more bold idea for the finale, which would have ended things on a much darker note; and made sequels impossible.

His concept was that Ripley and the Alien would fight in the pod, but instead of her blasting the creature out it would eventually gain the upper hand – and in a staggeringly bleak twist – bite her head off. Then it would slither over to the radio, and make a distress call to Earth while speaking in Ripley’s voice.

The studio wasn’t keen on this ultra grim ending, so Scott filmed a more upbeat ending where she triumphs over the beast and lives to fight another day.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
