10 Movies Where The Hero Should've Died

5. Matt Hooper - Jaws

Star Wars
Universal

In the thrilling third act of Jaws, Brody, Hooper, and Quint finally find the Great White that has been terrorising Amity Island for weeks. As the shark attacks the group's boat, Hooper enters a shark-proof cage, hoping to inject the creature with a poisoned spear. After the shark dismantles Hooper's cage, the nasty fishy hurries back to the boat, where it devours Quint.

Just as the vessel is about to sink into the sea, Brody shoots the pressure tank while it's inside the shark's mouth, blowing the beast to smithereens. With the threat finally defeated, it looks like the credits are about to roll

But with less than a minute left,, Hooper suddenly springs from the water, revealing he's safe and sound.

Even though it was nice to see Hooper made it, his return seems a bit random. After the shark demolished Hooper's cage, you naturally assumed he was fish food. He wasn't around when the shark destroyed the boat or when it ate Quint. To reveal that Hooper survived, despite the fact he played no part whatsoever in killing the shark, seemed a little pointless.
