10 Movies Where The Hero Turns Evil In The Sequel

7. Koba - Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Magneto X Men Days Of Future Past
20th Century Fox

There is no better example of humans being the villains than in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Caesar led the apes' fight against human oppression, and next to him all the way was Koba. Who didn't cheer when the abused ape was able to drop his abuser from the Golden Gate bridge at the end of the first movie?

Ten years later in the sequel however, while Caesar was happy to live alongside humans so long as they didn't bother the apes, Koba's hatred still raged. He wanted every human to die, whereas Caesar wanted peace, and this disagreement in ideology ultimately drove the two brothers in arms apart.

Koba manipulated his fellow apes, appearing to kill Caesar and using the leader's apparent death to bring about a bloody war with the humans. He became a ruthless leader who was obeyed out of fear more so than loyalty, and as a direct result of his actions killed many, many apes.

Ironically, Koba claimed that Caesar loved humans more than apes, and yet he was the one who outright murdered his own kind in some kind of power display. The war he brought on would damage the apes more than Caesar's peace ever could, and even years later during the War for the Planet of the Apes, Koba's influence haunted them.
