10 Movies Whose CinemaScores Make No Sense

8. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

CinemaScore: A-

Like Child's Play, the nature of how CinemaScores are decided makes this grade especially shocking.

Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace hugely disappointed Star Wars fans on its release with it being considered a huge let down compared to the original Trilogy.

Though somehow on The Phantom Menace's opening night CinemaScore managed to survey a plethora of people who didn't hate the first prequel (maybe the rest were too angry to fill a ballot out). While there's a chance that the kids in the audience bumped up the film's rating, there would've had to be a lot of them to get this to an A- on their own.

Even taking away the context of it being a downgrade from the previous instalments in the franchise, the film still doesn't deserve this high of a score. The Phantom Menace is a mostly dull affair with great special effects but poor writing.

Ben Jessey hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
