10 Movies With Post-Credits Scenes That Change Everything

6. Young Sherlock Holmes

Young Sherlock Holmes is a pretty enjoyable movie which follows Sherlock and Watson as teenagers, going to school together at Brompton Academy in London. There are a bunch of supporting characters in the film including Professor Rathe, played by Anthony Higgins. In the last act, Rathe is revealed to be the villain, and after he and Sherlock fight, Rathe falls into a frozen river, presumably to his death. The movie ends in a pretty typical Sherlock Holmes fashion where the mystery has been solved, the villain has been defeated, and Sherlock and Watson will have plenty of more adventures. But wait. In a post-credits scene, it's revealed that Rathe is still alive. Just the fact that the villain didn't die is enough of a surprise, but there's far more to this one. We see Rathe in a hotel checking himself in, this time under a new name: Moriarty. Yes, in this brief, 20 second scene, it's revealed that the villain of the movie, who we previously thought was just some new character invented for the film, is actually the greatest Sherlock nemesis of all time. This is a case where the post-credits scene isn't just some little moment that reveals a character didn't die or hints at a sequel. This one completely alters our perception of the entire film. If you didn't watch until the end of the credits on this one, you would still have no idea Professor Moriarty is even in the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4k80wFrh2c
