10 Movies With Random Subplots For Absolutely No Reason

1. Jason Statham's Cheating Girlfriend - The Expendables

The Expendables The only thing more ridiculous than the character's names in The Expendables is this subplot, which has Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) discovering that his girlfriend, Lacy (Charisma Carpenter), is shacking up with another guy, because he refused to tell her about the nature of his job. This subplot culminates in Lee finding out that the guy in question has been knocking Lacy about, so he goes to a basketball court to confront him, and ends up beating the crap out of him and all of his buddies. Not only smacking vaguely of sexism, these scenes simply give Statham another excuse to beat someone up while the main plot figures itself out. How about taking those minutes of screen time and putting them into a longer set-piece at the climax or any of the action scenes? Why do I care for a second about Statham's girlfriend, hot though she is? Which pointless subplot annoys you the most? Let us know in the comments below.
