6. Dr. Strangelove
Dr Strangelove is about a set of American soldiers who, under order by the deranged General Ripper, have been illegally sent to drop two nuclear missiles on the USSR, with the intention forcing the Cold War tensions into reality by striking first.
The staff at the Pentagon immediately arrange for Ripper's arrest and attempt to divert the course of the bomber, although their radio channel is encrypted and only Ripper knows the code. He takes this information to his grave, killing himself in his office to ensure the work is done.
It is revealed by a discussion with the Soviet Premier that they had a nuclear deterrent that they had not yet made public: should any nuclear weapon be detonated in Russia then several hidden bombs all over the world would detonate, destroying the Earth in just two months.
Unfortunately, the Americans could not call off the bomber in time.
Major Kong, the commander on the plane, rides one of the nuclear warheads down like a bull at a rodeo, the wheelchair-bound former-Nazi scientist that had been unable to control his urges to perform the Hitler salute rises to his feet and the world is destroyed alongside the jazzy yet sombre "We'll Meet Again" by Vera Lynn.
Do yourself a favour and go and watch it.
