When The Girl With All The Gifts was released in 2016 it looked set to breathe fresh life into zombie cinema.

Based on the novel of the same name, The Girl With All The Gifts focuses on a cluster of survivors hidden in a secret government base after a parasitic disease had turned the majority of humanity into "hungries".

In this base, military and hospital staff are conducting classes for a group of children known as hybrid second-generation children. In other words, half-human half-zombie children.

After the base is overrun and one of these little tykes, Melanie, her teacher Helen Justineau and a handful of others escape, deciding their best course of action would be to travel to London. The streets are jam-packed with hungries as well as packs of ravenous children that have learned to create traps for their human prey to fall into, ramping up the tension.

Although the film begins with Justineau attempting to educate these human/zombie hybrid children, the last thing this film should have done is close on this as well.

Everything the group had done up to this point is rendered meaningless when Melanie burns down a fungal pod tower, dooming humanity, and has Justineau (who is now confined to an air-tight mobile laboratory) resume teaching the infected children.

Just... what?
