M. Night Shyamalan loves to toy with audiences and include sneaky narrative hints in his films wherever possible, though perhaps his most subtle feat of foreshadowing occurs just 15 minutes into his sci-fi smash hit Signs.

At this point, Shyamalan focuses on Graham Hess' (Mel Gibson) young daughter Bo (Abigail Breslin) while she's watching the cartoon Dexter's Laboratory - the episode "Don't Be a Hero," to be precise.

In the scene, a martian gets hit with a rolled up newspaper, before Dexter is dunked head-first into a fish bowl. Lo and behold, how do the Hesses defeat the aliens in the movie's climax?

Graham's brother Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix) beats the alien up with a baseball bat and spills water on it.

This foreshadowing was only recently unearthed by a keen-eyed Redditor, confirming that Shyamalan's good movies just keep on giving even two decades later.
