4. Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King

Godfather Marlon Brando
New Line Cinema

In Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Aragorn finally reclaims the throne of Gondor and becomes the titular "King." He has substantially less focus in the third outing than ever before.

The novel of The Return of the King is divided into two "books." The first spends half of its focus on Pippin and Gandalf, then about one fourth on both Aragon's plotline and Merry's. The second book is almost entirely about Frodo and Sam, with Aragorn only appearing briefly for his coronation.

The film spends about the same amount of time with Aragorn as the book. Because of its infamous never-ending ending, it goes on for a good twenty minutes after Aragorn's final scene. Since the book goes on even longer without Aragorn, it's hard to imagine why Tolkien named it after the king who barely returns from the Two Towers.
