10 Movies You Can't Remember Who The Villain Really Was

4. Ghostbusters (2016)

Much like Die Hard, it doesn't help at all that the two prior Ghostbusters movies both featured intensely memorable villains - shape-shifting god Gozer the Gozerian (Slavitza Jovan) and medieval sorcerer Vigo the Carpathian (Wilhelm von Homburg) respectively.

By contrast, Ghostbusters 2016's main antagonist Rowan North (Neil Casey) feels like a total afterthought, a loser occultist who wants to bring about the end of the world because...nobody likes him?

It's almost as if writer-director Paul Feig himself knew that Rowan was a flat villain, given that he ends up turning into a spectral form of the Ghostbusters logo in the third act of the movie.

The only way the film could make Rowan interesting was to literally transform him into the series' most familiar piece of iconography. Hopefully the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife will give fans another over-the-top baddie worth remembering.
