The brilliant William Friedkin has directed some of the greatest films in cinema history, including The Exorcist, Sorcerer (very underrated) and The French Connection, amongst an eclectic assortment of others. One of his best films is 1985's To Live And Die In L.A., a gritty crime flick starring Willem Dafoe and William Peterson, now set to be adapted for TV.

The TV version will - like the film - adapt the novel of the same name by Gerald Petievich, and is set to be written (at least partly) by Robert Moresco, who co-wrote the screenplay for Crash (the Oscar one, not the sex one). The series is reportedly poised as something separate to the film, and will feature a brand new cast of characters. Here's hoping it turns out like The Wire or something.

Is It A Good Idea? The film isn't the best known, so it's not really a case of destroying a classic legacy. Fingers crossed this lives up to its potential, because it has a lot of it. Gritty and realistic seems like the best bet.
