10 Movies You Forgot Had Incredible Casts (And Why You Forgot)

5. The Martian

Anchorman 2 Thumb
20th Century Fox

The biggest box office success on this list, Ridley Scott’s The Martian is a gripping, intriguing and downright visually striking movie based off the Andy Weir novel. This sci-fi flick was one of the best rated films of 2015 and brought a surprising amount of realism and humour, mainly because of Matt Damon’s chemistry with himself throughout the movie.

Emotionally and visually stunning for audiences and critics alike, the two hour twenty-two minute runtime gives us plenty of time to see the amazing range of Damon throughout, his funny, charming and diligent character shines throughout. No wonder he won the Golden Globe as well as an Oscar nomination for best lead actor.

But on re-watches, you can appreciate this out-of-this-world cast even more. The extent of the supporting cast is phenomenal and highly underappreciated. The film boasts several big names including Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara and Mackenzie Davis, not to mention many Marvel Cinematic actors Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong and Donald Glover aka the music star, Childish Gambino. Matt Damon may have been lost in the stars, but he was certainly surrounded by them.

The Reason Why You Forgot – You spend so much time alone with Matt Damon that it’s hard to believe there is anyone else in this film. Not just because of the length of time but also the emotional connection. So, when the credits roll, it is hard to think of anyone else.
