10 Movies You Had No Idea They Remade

8. Anaconda

Tucker and Dale vs Evil Handsome Guys
Columbia Pictures

1997's Anaconda may not be a great movie, but it sure is a fun movie, and that's really what matters most. Believe it or not, its success led to four increasingly tawdry sequels, culminating in the 2015 crossover creature feature, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.

The franchise then went dormant for the better part of a decade, with Sony Pictures presently in the midst of assembling a reboot apparently set to star Paul Rudd and Jack Black. Earlier this year, however, a Chinese remake was released, switching out the documentary film crew of the original Anaconda for a group of circus performers who get stranded in the rainforest and terrorised by the titular oversized snake.

Though it hasn't yet surfaced in the West, the trailer certainly suggests production values more consistent with the original film rather than the low-rent glut of sequels and spin-offs. Letterboxd reviews meanwhile indicate it's a competent remake that's more comedic than its inspiration, and even if it wasn't any good, let's be real here - nobody's calling sacrilege over a bad Anaconda remake.
