10 Movies You Had No Idea Were Based On Comic Books

1. Men In Black

Untitled This is one of those adaptations that has most definitely been swept under the rug and which has little to do with the source material outside of the initial seed of an idea. The Men In Black miniseries was a lacklustre comic, published in black and white by Arcel in 1990 and while the film followed the basic induction of J into the Men In Black, the comic didn't just concern itself with UFO and alien invasion - some of their problems ranging from rogue agents to a monster created from a towns conscious. The film marketed itself on big budget effects, outlandish designs and 'comedy', but the comic couldn't be further from that. For examplle Agent K is a sadist with complete disregard for human life in the comic as opposed to the jaded but fatherly K in the film and Agent J is pretty strong-armed into accepting his position in the MIB with the threat of complete ruin should he decline - it is all very serious. The original MIB series is hard to track down now, with the TPB selling for in excess of £100 on some sites. While not especially a good read, it is an interesting counterpoint to the film and if you get the chance to read of a few of em I'd recommend doing so just for posterity.
