10 Movies You Hate For The Wrong Reasons

8. Alien: Covenant

Why You Hate It: Because Ridley Scott straight-up lied to fans, claiming that it would remedy many of Prometheus' problems - namely giving us scientist characters with actual functioning brain stems - while compellingly expanding the mythology of the Alien franchise.

As it turned out, the scientists were just as dumb as in Prometheus, prior protagonist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) dies off-screen in the laziest fashion possible, the Xenomorph's genesis gets an eyebrow-raising ret-con, the Engineer storyline is literally nuked out of existence, and it concludes with the most laughably predictable plot twist imaginable.

Why You Should Hate It: For all of these undeniable flaws, Covenant's real failing is simple: its disappointing box office performance has basically killed the Alien franchise all over again.

With the planned Covenant follow-up Alien: Awakening scrapped, it's just a matter of time before Fox soft-reboots the property.

Considering these prequels proposed some intriguing mythology and introduced a classic franchise character in Michael Fassbender's malevolent android David, it's infuriating that this is all getting thrown out.

If Covenant wasn't such a clumsy mess of half-baked ideas and actually delivered both the Prometheus sequel and Alien movie fans were promised, Scott would probably be preparing to shoot Awakening as we speak. What a waste.
