10 Movies You Hate For The Wrong Reasons
6. Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones
Why You Hate It: Because of Anakin (Hayden Christensen) and Padme's (Natalie Portman) appallingly overdone romance, as well as the over-abundance of soulless green screen effects obsessively deployed by George Lucas.
Why You Should Hate It: As much as everyone loves Red Letter Media's hilarious review of Attack of the Clones, you really don't need a two-hour video essay to get to the heart of why Episode II is worthy of your derision.
Simply, it's the only Star Wars movie of the 11 released to date - yes, we're including The Clone Wars - that actually dares to be boring.
A film can be as silly and ridiculous as Attack of the Clones is, and if it's aware of its own absurdity then it could actually be entertaining.
This film, however, is shot through with an agonisingly desperate self-seriousness. At least The Phantom Menace had a certain childlike whimsy to it and Revenge of the Sith somewhat earned its grimness.
But this awkward middle child of a movie has no idea what it wants to be, and so it ultimately decides to be a whole lot of nothing (beyond some hollow set-pieces, of course).
