10 Movies You Totally Forgot Had Sequels

6. The Sting II (1983)

It’s widely overlooked that The Sting won Best Picture, probably because its victory was sandwiched right between The Godfather and the Godfather II, the greatest two films ever made. But that’s not to say The Sting is at all a bad viewing – it’s an entertaining film, set in 1930s Chicago, with sharply acted leads by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, accompanied by a thrilling musical underscore and the best Edith Head costume designs you’ll see. It may not stick with you for days after seeing it but it is a heck of a lot of fun and easy to see why it won so many Oscars.

The Sting II is not very well remembered but for good reason. There actually could have been potential for a decent sequel but the script, editing and acting is not up to the standard of the original. The dialogue tries too hard to be slick off the tongue but it falls flat without the talent of Newman and Redford to breathe life to the words.

It’s another example of a sequel being made too far away from the original and feeling rather flaccid as a result.
