10 Movies You Won’t Believe Are In Development
5. Shrek 5
How can it be that the first Shrek film came out almost 20 years ago? Since then the franchise that made us fall in love with a crotchety green ogre has spawned three sequels, a feline spin-off and eight short films, not to mention a whole world of bizarre internet spoofs and memes…probably best not to even delve into that weird and wonderful quagmire.
Following the success of Shrek 2, producer Jeffrey Katzenberg announced that the series had originally been written with five films in mind. However, following various rewrites and restructuring the franchise seemed to have arrived at a somewhat happily ever after, following the release of the look warm Shrek Forever After. But this never seemed like a worthy ending.
Although Shrek 5 doesn’t have a release date yet, it does have an IMDB page, with Eddie Murphy confirming in 2016 that the expected release was 2019 or 2020 and that a completed script existed. Rumours suggest that the fifth instalment will likely not be a sequel, but instead a reinvention of the series that may explain how Shrek ended up in the swamp.
This is a sequel that needs to happen. Ogre to you DreamWorks.
