10 Movies You Won’t Believe Were Box Office Mega Hits
6. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
On the surface, a violent and comical look at the lives of Hansel and Gretel after their famous folklore fairy tale had reached its conclusion seemed like an attractive enough concept. So, it's just a shame that the eventual end product ended up being anything but.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters may possess two charming enough leads in the form of Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton (coming off of turns in The Avengers and Clash of the Titans, respectively), but the rest of the 2013 project leaves much to be desired, depending on random F-bombs and pointless gore to shock, instead of delivering a genuinely gripping story about the siblings who burnt a witch to a crisp in their youth.
Yet, none of that seemed to matter in the end as the $50 million film, produced by Will Ferrel and Adam McKay, went on to make a considerable profit after being released in cinemas worldwide. This highly impressive box office return of $226.3 million eventually led to talk of a sequel later down the line. Mercifully, though, we're still yet to see a follow-up to this unremarkable money-maker.
