A few things seem to be certain in life: Death, taxes, and kids absolutely losing their sh*t over tiny, singing CGI rodents.

Don't believe me? Take a look at the insane amount of money the increasingly stale set of Alvin and the Chipmunk films has raked in at the box office since the group of little fur-balls reclaimed their place in pop culture back in 2007. That being said, by the time 20th Century Fox had gone back to the warbling well for the fourth time in eight years, you would have been right in thinking that even the most passionate young chipmunk fans must have had enough of the irritating, high-pitched threesome at this point.

If Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip's box office takings were anything to go by, though, that couldn't have been any further from the truth... somehow. Admittedly, the fourth instalment in this unexpected franchise of CGI cash-grabs didn't quite match the earnings made from the three prior entries (bringing in $361.1 million, $443.1 million, and $342.7 million, respectively). But, the tale of three brothers trying to stop their surrogate father from getting married still brought home a massive $234 million on a $90 million budget.

With the clan now calling Disney home in recent times, could we see the House of Mouse squeeze a few more pennies out of this cash-chipmunk in the future? Nuttier things have happened.
