10 Movies You Won’t Believe Were Box Office Mega Hits
2. Need For Speed (2014)
Coming out of one of the most popular TV series of all time in Breaking Bad, Touchstone were right to assume that fans would pay good money to see Aaron Paul front a film adaptation of the highly successful Need for Speed video game series.
However, despite trying its best to live up to the high-octane action and street racing drama laid down by the Fast and Furious franchise before it, and bringing together a ridiculously talented cast which boasted the likes of Rami Malek, Imogen Poots, Dominic Cooper, and Michael Keaton, Need for Speed still couldn't keep itself from speeding off the tracks at 200mph when it came to its baffling plot and generic characters.
But, as the aforementioned Fast series has proven time and time again, people like fast cars and explosions. With that in mind, it may not be too shocking to hear that the gear-head film, made on a $66million budget, managed to pull in a commendable $203.3 million at the box office.
Even though the unmemorable movie undoubtedly flopped domestically, it was something of a hit in the worldwide market. That global success is what eventually led to talks of a Need for Speed sequel soon after its release. However, those rumblings soon cooled off and we're yet to hit the road with Paul again nearly seven years on.
