10 Movies You Won't Believe Were Rated PG

7. Godzilla Vs The Smog Monster

With pollution becoming a growing concern in Japan, the film studio, Toho, decided to tackle the issue. In 1971, they released Godzilla vs The Smog Monster, which has the titular character squaring off against a pollution-filled creature called Hedorah. Just to make the message more heavy-handed, the film's theme song was called Save The Earth. Toho pushed for Godzilla vs The Smog Monster to receive a PG rating so children could learn about the environment while watching the movie.

Ironically, this film is the most inappropriate entry in the entire franchise. Even by today's standards, the violence and nudity is unsuitable for younger audiences. Hedorah pours acid on people, causing their skin to melt down to the bone. There's even a shot of a bloody naked woman sliced in two, floating in polluted water.

The strangest moment is when a character starts seeing fish-headed people after he consumes an LSD-laced drink at a nightclub. Why is there a drug reference in a children's film? Better question; why is there a drug reference in a Godzilla movie?

Godzilla vs The Smog Monster feels so unsuited for a younger demographic, it makes you wonder if it was rated PG by mistake.
