10 Movies You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Were Huge Box Office Hits

3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) - $368.7m

One of the biggest sleeper hits of all time, audiences flocked to the theater in their droves to see Joel Zwick's romantic comedy, propelling the movie to astonishing levels of success. My Big Fat Greek Wedding turned into one of the biggest hits of 2002, earning over seventy-three times its $5m production budget despite being an entirely forgettable and often generic rom-com. The movie still holds the record for the highest-earning movie never to reach first place at the domestic box office with $241.4m, and while it never managed to hit the top spot it remained in the top ten for nineteen straight weeks and ended the year as the fifth highest-grossing feature in the United States. Worldwide, it was the ninth biggest hit of the year and earned more than the likes of Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can and The Bourne Identity. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a movie you never hear anybody talk about these days, but when it was in theaters it was nothing short of a phenomenon.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
