10 Movies You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Were Huge Box Office Hits

2. Slumdog Millionaire (2008) - $377.9m

Danny Boyle's feelgood drama faced a long road to box office success; the project initially struggled to find investment, before distributor Warner Independent Pictures was shut down just months before the release date, with Warner Bros. seriously contemplating releasing the movie straight-to-video in the United States. After winning eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, Slumdog Millionaire took off in a big way and ended up as one of the year's biggest hits. Even though the movie never reached any higher than third place at the domestic box office, it held incredibly well from November right through until March and ended up earning $141.3m in the United States. Inspiring, uplifting and entertaining, Slumdog Millionaire captivated audiences around the globe, which was reflected in the impressive box office numbers. 2008 was absolutely packed with high-earning blockbusters, but Slumdog still managed to earn more than The Incredible Hulk, Wanted and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and even came mighty close to matching Twilight's box office haul.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
