8. It Was Shelved For A Tax Write-Off - Batgirl

In March 2022, Warner Bros.' live-action Batgirl movie - starring Leslie Grace and directed by Adil & Bilall (Bad Boys for Life) - wrapped principal photography.

And though originally intended for a streaming release direct to HBO Max, the $90 million superhero movie was being considered for a theatrical upgrade by Warner Bros. brass.

But then, later that summer, the studio suddenly announced that Batgirl had been cancelled, with executives at the newly merged Warner Bros. Discovery deciding to write off the film for a tax break instead of releasing it.

While there were mixed reports about test screening reactions and the film apparently still needed VFX work as well as some reshoots, it was basically unheard of for a studio to scrap such a huge project, especially for a tax write-off.

The decision was widely condemned by filmmakers throughout Hollywood, and though some fans cling to hope that Batgirl could one day be released, that seems highly unlikely given the circumstances.
