10 Movies You're Embarrassed You Love

2. Transformers

Freddy Vs Jason
DreamWorks Pictures/Paramount Pictures

The Transformers franchise seems to be trying to rebuild itself with the Bumblebee spinoff, but for nearly ten years Transformers has been a film series that nobody has really thought much of.

Michael Bay’s bad habits for “shooting cars like women and shooting women like cars” and his explosion fetish are on full display in every film. They’re mindless action movies, which are fine to enjoy, but in a discerning crowd you may want to talk about something else.

Not that the films don’t have merits. For all Bay’s misgivings in his directing style, he’s also a big proponent of practical effects. Most of the explosions, car-flips and stunts you see in the films are real and authentic, and well-deserving of praise. Just, uh, don’t start arguing that Bumblebee’s voice shouldn’t work that way because the comics say this and that and… Remember, this is a franchise aimed at teenage boys.
