10 Musical Biopics Hollywood Needs To Make Next
7. Richey Edwards
Who Could Star: Timothée Chalamet
Richey Edwards is by far the smallest name on this list, but he one of the most fascinating lives of anyone. The Manic Street Preachers frontman was one of the most eloquent lyricists of his era, and was the first real celebrity to talk about many topics still considered taboo today.
Edwards struggled his entire life with depression and self harm, once cutting his forearm with a razor blade during an NME interview. He also couldn’t play guitar, despite his gift for lyrics and influence on the Manic’s direction. This only worsened his depression as the band received success and he became terrified of being found out as a fraud.
His death was mysterious too. He is believed to have died by suicide after jumping off the Severn Bridge, although many close friends maintain he never entertained thoughts of suicide.
Edwards was in a deteriorating state around this time, fuelling the idea of suicide. He had gone missing prior to his death and left a strange, ornately decorated package full of books and photographs in his hotel room.
Chalamet has enough of the look for Edwards, and at 23 already has an Oscar nomination under his belt.
