5. Chris Farley As Shrek In "Shrek"
- I'm being a little bit naughty by including this entry because, technically, Falrey was indeed cast as Shrek in the film of the same name. In fact, before his death Farley had recorded about 95% of the dialogue for the film. But to hell with the consequences: why I include this entry is because the film that made use of Farley's voice was completely different from the film we all know and hold dear. The Farley Shrek was a sensitive soul who lived with his parents and was reluctant to join the family business of terrifying humanity (basically a more boring version of Monsters, Inc.). Essentially, had Mike Myers not been involved we would have ended up with a final product which, according to Jeffrey Katzenberg, the CEO of DreamWorks, "didn't work." This is in no way is a reflection on Chris himself, who was indeed a funny guy. But thanks to the involvement of Myers, who insisted on a complete rewrite of the script that completely changed the originally introverted, young Shrek into an older, misanthropic brute, we ended up with a smash hit that remains beloved by the masses rather than a throwaway that was forgotten to time.
