4. Eddie Murphy As Winston In "Ghostbusters"
In the past Murphy had his moments. Admittedly, everything he attaches himself to these days seems doomed to financial despair, but in the past he had his moments. One of those moments was not
Ghostbusters (Ivan Reitman, 1984), despite Murphy being the directors first choice for the movie, and that is probably for the best. Much like Jim Carrey, you know exactly what to expect from an Eddie Murphy performance, which under the right circumstances isn't such a bad thing. But put him in the wrong movie and things can end disastrously, and I propose that one of those instances would have been
Ghostbusters. The chemistry in
Ghostbuster works extremely well, and I can't see Murphy's inclusion spicing things up any better, though it could easily have detracted from the film. To be honest, I don't think this decision would have ended as calamitously as some of the others would have had the directors initial choice come to fruition, but nevertheless I think that the majority of us are pleased that things turned out the way they did.
