Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to strike a chord with critics, while its huge budget also meant that it wasn't exactly a commercial hit despite an impressive $873 million haul at the worldwide box office. That ultimately resulted in some big changes being made to Suicide Squad, including Task Force X's foes being over-the-top, CGI enhanced creations.

Thankfully, Gunn has confirmed during a number of Instagram Q&A sessions that he's dialling back the special effects in The Suicide Squad. None of the characters will have CGI costumes, and that's become apparent after seeing the cast on set. Even the likes of Ratcatcher and Polka-Dot Man are decked out in practical outfits.

This feels like the right movie for a comic book adaptation which is supposed to be grounded in reality, and the first instalment was at its best when it embraced that realistic tone (you know, before Enchantress started gyrating her way across the screen). However, the movie will feature a fully CGI character, but we'll get to him a little later in this post...
