If you don't keep up to date with online gossip, you probably won't be aware that Gunn seemingly loathes Jared Leto. During that controversial phase on social media which would later get him fired by Disney, the filmmaker even went so far as to imply that the Oscar-winning actor is a paedophile! So, yeah, they won't be working together here.

Throw in the fact that Leto was upset with Warner Bros. for the way his scenes in 2016's Suicide Squad movie were cut (and the Clown Prince of Crime's absence from Birds of Prey), and the writing has been on the wall for a while now when it comes to The Joker's on-screen future. For what it's worth, though, Gunn has offered an explanation...of sorts!

"No one but me and a few others know all the characters in the movie," he revealed near the start of production, "but if the Joker isn't in the film, I don't think it would be strange as he isn't a part of the Suicide Squad in the comics." So, there you have it! The chances of The Joker tracking down Harley and Task Force X for revenge are between slim and none.
