10 New Things We Learned About Joss Whedon's Justice League
3. We're Looking At A Crisis-level Event
Those red skies look ominous for a reason.
Apart from being the backdrop to The New Batman Adventures, red skies are also the universal DC signifier for something terrible happening, in this case a Crisis, or some other earth-ending event. It looks as though much of Justice League's third act will feature a red backdrop, fuelling speculation that Steppenwolf's rampage - in keeping with most other New God rampages - will culminate in a massive Earth-altering event.
Given what we know about Flash's upcoming solo film and that it's mostly inspired by the events of Flashpoint - a story contingent on the existence of a Multiverse - it looks as though DC are going all in with the idea of a Crisis on Infinite Earths. Which sounds amazing.
While it's doubtful that WB would ever go all in with a page-for-page adaptation of that calibre, Justice League is set to deliver a story with massive repercussions for the DCEU, and indeed, all other potential versions of the DCU. With all various Crises donning the red backdrop at some point or another, and with all those stories involving a death or two, it could be that Justice League will come to represent the very antithesis of 2012's Avengers, which was - for the most part - nothing more than an irreverent (albeit fun) big screen romp.
Hey, Batman totally dies in Final Crisis. Just saying.
