10 New Year's Resolutions For 2013's Biggest Movie Characters
7. To Improve Working Conditions For His Minions - Gru (Despicable Me 2)
Supervillain turned superspy, Gru commands countless minions who do most of the heavy-lifting for him, without anything like the credit they deserve, even when asked to take on additional duties outside of their remit, like childcare. Undoubtedly adorable and probably very useful to have around, these little workers nevertheless suffer countless workplace injuries on a daily basis. Some of this is down to clumsiness but a lot of the blame lies with the safety measures Gru has failed to put in place. If this were a legitimate business, lawsuits would be flying left, right and center. It may be amusing to watch a Minion fall many feet from a catwalk onto the cold, hard floor but the lasting damage it will cause is no laughing matter. While they appear indestructible when we see them on screen, who knows how many countless minions have lost their lives in Dr. Nefrario's lab. Added to this we have numerous references to the fact that Gru is shifty when it comes to reimbursing his workforce for their labour. This paints a very negative picture of the enterprise that he's running, even the most evil of Bond villains will have paid their henchmen. His resolution should certainly to treat his workers better, pay them on time and sort out some sort of health and safety code for their workplace. It's this or he'll have an injured, unpaid rabble of angry yellow minions forming the cutest mutiny of all time.
