10 Nicolas Cage Films That Know Exactly What They Are

5. Season Of The Witch

Another appearance from long-haired Cage, Season of the Witch is actually a testament to his childhood dream of becoming a knight. Yes, the only reason he took on this role was to live out his fantasy of medieval swordplay - which y'know, is fair enough. It does seem to be that every role is a dream come true for our dear Nic, which only stands as testament to the enjoyment of his job. You keep doing you, mate.

The premise lies in 14th century knights Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman being tasked with guarding a witch, who they must transport to a nearby monastery to be exorcised of the evil that inhabits her. The monks believe that it's what is inside her that has cursed the land with the black plague, so it's a pretty big deal to get her sorted out: cue Cage on the case.

It's a film that isn't afraid to go all-out on its themes, and is a particularly enjoyable watch for fantasy and horror fans for just how much it plays around. Cage very much dedicates himself to his casual-cool demeanour in the movie, which makes it all the more fun because it's Nicolas Cage fighting demons as a knight. Did I mention he's a knight? Because he is. And it's great.
