10 Non-Christmassy Christmas Films To Watch At Christmas

4. Batman Returns

The Chronicles of Narnia
Warner Bros.

There is never not a good reason to be watching a Batman, movie so why not watch one at Christmas? As Batman Returns is set during the Christmas period, it's a no-brainer to be included here.

Batman Returns may not be one of very best Batman movies, but it does have a lot of redeeming features. Michael Keaton is perfect as Batman, Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer are perfect as Penguin and Catwoman, respectively, and kids will be intrigued by the unique gothic world created by Tim Burton.

1989's Batman movie - with Jack Nicholson as the Joker - is a superior movie to Batman Returns, but that film is perhaps too dark for the full family to sit around and watch. After all, Batman Returns was clearly geared more towards young audiences - as shown by the McDonald's Happy Meal toys that tied in with the picture.

Batman Returns emphasises distinct references to the holiday season thanks to Tim Burton, who wanted to make a Batman movie set during the Christmas holidays.

Burton fans will know that this isn't his only dive into a twisted Christmas, of course. With Batman Returns and Edward Scissorhands already under his belt, Burton followed up his 1992 Bat-flick with Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas a year later.
