10 Non-Horror Movies That Are HORRIFYING
8. The Truman Show
On a superficial level, The Truman Show may seem pretty damn far from horror, what with its vibrant colour palette and, well, the presence of Jim Carrey in the lead role. But there's no denying just how existentially terrifying the film's central premise is, of a man whose entire existence is fabricated for a 24/7 reality TV show.
Honestly, is there anything scarier than a dystopian future where a TV studio is allowed to legally adopt a child?
Though much of The Truman Show is hilarious and entertaining, on a deeper level it's also a film about outrageous human rights violations and the means through which technology allows one's reality to be distorted.
And even though the picture has a "happy" ending, are we really to believe that Truman (Carrey) would ever be able to fully adjust to a normal life, and not just become intensely paranoid and distrustful of everyone he ever meets?
