8. Gerry

Gerry is the first entry into Gus Van Sant's so-called "Death Trilogy" (also consisting of Elephant and Last Days), revolving around two young men both named Gerry (Matt Damon and Casey Affleck) who venture out into the desert and soon become lost.

The entire movie solely follows around Damon and Affleck with no concessions, and to make the film even more of a provocation to audiences, long stretches pass without any dialogue whatsoever.

And indeed, Gerry is a slog of a film despite its mere 103-minute run-time, but a unique challenge gamely accepted by its skilled lead actors.

It no doubt helped that Damon and Affleck are pals in real life, making their chemistry and interactions throughout the film that much more believable.
