3. The Hood
Okay, so I'm kind of cheating with this entry because The Hood isn't a superhero. He's actually a supervillain. But, let's be reasonable. Sooner or later, someone is going to get the bright idea that with all these superhero movies being made, no one is making a movie that focuses on the villain as the protagonist. Now, while it's hard to have your audience relate to a main character that's essentially a "bad guy", the one character that is perfect for that kind of story is The Hood. The brainchild of comics genius Brian K. Vaughn, Parker Robbins saw a battle between Electro and Daredevil as a child and instead of looking up to the hero, he saw the power and prestige of the villain. Later in life, he stumbled upon a demonic cloak and boots that gave him the powers of invisibility and flight. He then decided to enter into a life of crime as The Hood. While it sounds pretty like pretty cliched bad guy stuff, there's more to his origins. He dropped out of high school to attend to his sickly mother and upon discovering his new-found powers, decided to use them to steal money and diamonds so he could get her better care. It's a truly realistic scenario (and has curious parallels to this year's
Chronicle) for what would happen if most people stumbled upon superpowers. Would you really go out and start beating up crooks? Or would you use your abilities to better your loved ones, even if it meant breaking the law? Or would you finally try and make your mark in the world, no matter the cost? The Hood is a great character to explore these morally grey areas, and could be the first true "supervillain" movie.
