Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) directs Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing in this drama about the famous cryptographer's efforts to crack the Nazi Enigma Code during World War II, as well as his prosecution for homosexual activity. Sure to be a hot-button project given that Turing was given a pardon just before Christmas, the screenplay also benefits from having made the top of the 2011 black list for best unproduced screenplays. But it's now been produced, and though this is one film on this list that I actually expect to be decent, even perhaps garnering Cumberbatch his first Oscar nomination, it's also in its worthiness an extremely baity film, given that it's a biopic of a much-respected figure who suffered a tragic end to his life. With a crackerjack supporting cast including Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode and Mark Strong, this one has Oscar bait written all over it.
