It's a remake of a classic musical with a contemporary twist, and the fact that it stars Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis (who earned a Best Actress nomination last year), certainly won't hurt it. It's safe to say that this movie could be complete garbage, but it's difficult to screw those iconic tunes up too badly (right?), and the presence of likeable actors such as Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Rose Byrne will only do it favours. Then there's everything behind the camera. It was co-written by Emma Thompson, and though director Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) is something of a wild card, this is another production that benefits from excellent source material, which may push it further than the innate talents of the director.
