2007's Hannibal Rising is the fifth and final movie in the Hannibal Lecter series inspired by the novels of Thomas Harris. Yes, there were four more of these after The Silence of the Lambs, and no, none of them were as good.

In this instalment, audiences are shown the future doctor as a young boy living in World War II-era Lithuania with his wealthy family. They travel to a hunting lodge to escape the Nazis, but this turns out to be a terrible idea when an Allied tank explodes nearby and kills nearly everyone inside.

The only survivors are Hannibal (obviously) and his sister Mischa. The kids fend for themselves until, one day, a group of SS soldiers arrive looking for food.

It is revealed via a flashback later in the movie that the soldiers not only killed Mischa, but they ate her too. Young Hannibal was forced to watch as his only surviving relative was butchered in front of him, which goes a long way in explaining why he turned out the way he did.
