10 Oldest Characters In Star Wars Universe
3. Jabba The Hutt - 604 Years Of Age
With George Lucas having made various tweaks to his original Star Wars trilogy over the years, one of the characters most affected by these changes is Jabba the Hutt.
Originally, a human version of Jabba the Hutt - as played by Declan Mulholland - was to be a part of A New Hope. Only he wasn’t. Despite this scene being shot, the decision was ultimately made to leave it out of that 1977 movie.
From there, the familiar slug-like version of Jabba was introduced in Return of the Jedi. But then, as part of Lucas’ tinkering, the 1997 cinematic re-releases of the Holy Trilogy saw the aforementioned deleted scene inserted into Empire. With audiences now familiar with the slug form of Jabba, a CGI version of Jabba was famously layered over Mulholland's performance.
Getting to the crux of the matter, then, this nefarious member of the infamous Hutt clan lived long enough to become one of the oldest beings in Star Wars canon. By the time he was strangled to death by Leia in Return of the Jedi, Jabba – full name Jabba Desilijic Tiure – was a whopping 604 years of age.
