10 Once-Great Movie Franchises That Just Need To Die
2. Predator
Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is perhaps one of the most prominent examples of a 'lightening in a bottle' films ever made. A 1980s hyper-masculine powerhouse of a spectacle, with biceps, violence and an certain iconic alien hunter. It really is a time capsule of cinema where everything aligned perfectly to create a special film. Perhaps that's why every attempt since then to bring the franchise back has been such a glaring failure.
Predator 2 certainly tried something different taking the Predator to the streets but ultimately failed to make an impact anywhere close to it's predecessor. Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018), (possibly the most confusing titles in film history) managed to muster some Box Office success but were ultimately poorly received for delivering cheesy characters, forgettable plots and perhaps worst of all, feeling like a missed opportunity.
The Predator's integrity was damaged even further by the awful crossover Alien vs. Predator and it's sequel, AVP2: Requiem. The films turned both franchises into a laughing stock and unfortunately damaged their image beyond repair forever so it would seem.
