10 Once-Great Movie Franchises That Just Need To Die

1. The Terminator

Please, PLEASE, just let it rest. Since the original films release in 1984, The Terminator has spawned a total of FIVE sequels and almost all of them are bad. To his credit, James Cameron delivered Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991, a sequel that surpasses the original film in almost every way and is well regarded as the strongest film in the franchise.

The following sequels, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genisys all delivered toned down violence and language, losing a lot of the original edge. It's hard not to get caught up in the infectious enthusiasm shown by Arnie towards the films, but even his appearances could not save them from painful mediocrity.

The latest attempt came from Deadpool director Tim Miller with Terminator: Dark Fate. His film boasted the return of James Cameron producing and Linda Hamilton starring, both of whom were not involved with the franchise since Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Despite this, the sequel was a commercial and critical flop, being generally disregarded by fans and critics alike. Surely this final attempt sounds the end of the franchise, at least for a while. Let's hope that this time he won't be back.
