10 One-Off Horror Movie Villains Who MUST Return
5. Doom-Head - 31
There are many things wrong with Rob Zombie’s trashy, derivative, preposterous, and unsatisfying 31. However, Richard Brake’s turn as calculated killer Doom-Head isn’t one of them. In fact, he’s the saving grace of the film, not to mention one of Zombie’s most captivatingly twisted and terrifying characters.
His iconic presence is instantly established during 31’s prologue, wherein he calmingly but frighteningly waxes poetic about himself before fatally impaling his hapless victim (Pastor Victor) with an axe. It’s a chillingly artsy introduction that sets up how cold, manipulative, and vicious Doom-Head can be.
Later, audiences get a glimpse into Doom-Head’s personal life that adds depth to his depravity, and ultimately, he acts as the final boss of the titular Running Man-esque game. Once all his underlings are defeated by the unlucky contestants, he’s brought out to taunt and eviscerate the survivors.
The final act finds Doom-Head tracking down Sheri Moon Zombie’s Charly, and after a tense face-off, he’s told to retreat by the aristocrats in charge of “31” because Charly won and is free to go. Expectedly, this upsets Doom-Head, who eventually locates her on a quiet road, and the two prepare to fight once again as the credits roll.
Undoubtedly, Zombie’s cliffhanger conclusion demands a resolution that sees Doom-Head coming out on top before carrying on with his inhuman escapades.
