10 Opening Horror Movie Scenes That Should've Been Cut

6. Ben's Escape Room - Escape Room

Saw The Final Chapter
Sony Pictures Releasing

Escape Room opens with one of the film's characters, Ben Miller (Logan Miller), trapped inside a room as the walls slowly move in, seemingly crushing him to death.

But before we see him perish, the scene abruptly cuts to black, flashing back to three days prior where the rest of the movie plays out chronologically.

And given that Ben is one of the movie's very main characters, seeing him trapped in this room upfront ensures that we know he won't die at least until he reaches this room, which he only enters near the end of the third act, almost 80 minutes later.

How does it benefit the audience in any way to know that Ben survives the various rooms leading up to this one? It only drains some of the suspense away.

If the filmmakers felt that the movie needed to open with a brutal trap, why not just show a random participant from a previous "game" being killed instead?
