10 Opening Horror Movie Scenes That Should've Been Cut

5. Samara Crashes A Plane - Rings

2017's belated third American movie based on The Ring, Rings, kicks off with a totally ridiculous opening death scene which feels like it belongs in another franchise entirely.

The brief prologue takes place two years before the rest of the movie, where a passenger onboard a plane, Carter (Zach Roerig), reveals that he watched the cursed Ring videotape almost exactly a week ago.

Another passenger, Kelly (Lizzie Brocheré), who also watched the tape, then asks him if he made a copy in order the pass the curse on to somebody else.

When he answers in the negative, the plane is suddenly invaded by Samara (Bonnie Morgan), who emerges from the cockpit's console screen and causes the aircraft to crash, killing everyone onboard.

Though the sequence certainly has potential, having Samara kill an entire plane's worth of people because of one cursed person? It doesn't track with the internal logic of the series.

It would've been way creepier if Carter was killed in his seat after Samara crawled through one of the in-flight TV screens, firmly establishing that nowhere is safe yet without having Samara unnecessarily kill hundreds of people.

Beyond Carter's cursed tape then being picked up by one of the film's main characters two years later, it has barely any connection at all to the rest of the movie.
