10 Original Cuts Of Horror Movies We'll Sadly Never See
4. Alien 3 (David Fincher's Version)
Alien 3 has always been the outlier of its respective franchise, not as universally hated as Alien: Resurrection or Covenant, but never looked back upon with the love and affection of its predecessors. Notorious hardships behind the scenes culminated in the frankly disastrous Theatrical Cut, which released to a very cold reception back in 1993.
Thankfully a decade later, we were blessed with the 'Special Edition' of the film, or as it's more commonly known, the Assembly Cut - which was put together without the involvement of director David Fincher.
The Assembly Cut features an additional 37 minutes and 12 seconds of alternative footage, which drastically changes the narrative and fleshes out the secondary characters. These additions do amount to a more polished and cohesive film, which has seen it undergo a critical reappraisal and it is now looked back on with far less ire.
However, we can't help but get a little tingle down below when imagining what this film could be if Fincher himself oversaw a new edit, bringing it more in line with the dark, depressive ideas he'd originally had in mind.
Some CGI re-touches wouldn't go amiss either, to be honest...
