10 Oscar-Worthy Recent Performances The Academy Will Ignore

1. Robert Downey Jr. - Avengers: Endgame

Only once has a superhero movie been nominated for an acting award; Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.

The Academy failed to nominate Michael B. Jordan in Black Panther, Josh Brolin in Avengers: Infinity War, nor Patrick Stewart or Hugh Jackman in Logan.

The Academy hasn’t, just until last year, really given superhero flicks their due, despite being one of the major reasons the movie industry is still afloat.

They’ll award them with technical consolation prizes, but rarely do they get acting, writing, directing, or best picture recognition. Black Panther broke through last year but still failed to gain a nomination in anything above the line besides Best Picture.

Many claim the Academy will give out Oscars as a “Career Achievement” award, and if they’re willing, nothing would be more fitting than offering it to RDJ for his decade-long performance as Tony Stark.

Sure, his performance in Endgame was touching, beautiful, and the best thus far, but it would have been nothing had we not continuously seen him every few years. The MCU is unlike any animal the film industry has ever seen, and Downey Jr. has been the face of it every step of the way.

Never giving anything less than his all, Endgame is the final chapter to Stark’s narrative. If acting is about truly becoming the role; hopefully the Academy remembers, he is Iron Man.
